A Cloth & A Dream
35 Strong, and Still Growing: The Story Behind the Hire A Housewife Team
Fourteen years ago, Hire A Housewife started with exactly one team member, one cloth, and a fairly stubborn belief that busy people deserved a bit of help getting their homes back. There was no big plan, no five-year strategy, just a woman with a cloth and a dream.
Fast forward to today, and that one-woman mission has grown into a team of 35 yes, 35! amazing humans working across the Manawatū and Bay of Plenty. Not everyone made it into the photo this time round (turns out wrangling 35 people into one spot at the same time is its own kind of chaos)
It Takes All of Us
Ask anyone on the Hire A Housewife team what they do and you'll get 35 different answers. Some of us are elbow-deep in ovens, working magic on the kind of baked-on grime that makes lesser cleaners weep. Some of us are out in the garden, taming lawns and hedges into shape. Some of us are behind the scenes keeping the schedules running, the invoices sent, and the standards high. And some of us are out there every day, in and out of homes and businesses, making sure every single client domestic or commercial gets treated like the most important job on the list.
“Every one of those roles matters. Take any one of them away and the wheels stop turning. Keep them all spinning together, and you get a business that’s been quietly (and not-so-quietly) growing for 14 years.”
More Than a Number
Here's the thing about "35 team members" it's a nice stat, but it's not really the point. The point is what's happening underneath that number, a genuine culture of care, quality, a good sense of fun, and a real commitment to giving back to the communities we work in.
We've built a workplace where people actually 'want' to come to work where a hard week gets a check-in and a good week gets celebrated, where new ideas are welcome, and where "team culture" isn't just something we put on a poster. We've built a business where clients feel properly looked after, not just ticked off a list. And we've built something that stays rooted in community, because a business that only takes and never gives back isn't the kind of business we ever wanted to be.
#Here's To What's Next
So here's to the team behind the scenes — the ones scrubbing, mowing, scheduling, smiling, and showing up.
Here's to every home and business that trusts us to look after it.
And here's to growing with heart, one cloth (and one very good team) at a time.
