Cleaning for a Cause: Bringing Comfort to Cancer Patients
Recognising the scarcity of services available to support cancer patients in the Manawatu region, Natasha and her husband Pete embarked on a heartfelt mission called "Cleaning for a Cause." Having personally experienced the profound impact of cancer on families, they felt compelled to extend their helping hand to those in need. This initiative is something our entire staff passionately supports, finding immense satisfaction in being part of it. We firmly believe that, as a united team, we can gradually make a meaningful difference in our community. Looking ahead, we aspire to assist even more cancer patients and will be seeking volunteers to help us realize this vision. We work closely with social workers from Arohanui Hospice to identify and assist cancer patients in need.
Our journey began with a remarkable lady named Alison, who was our first recipient. We learned about her story through a newspaper article and reached out to her privately. Alison, with a young family and a promising future, tragically lost her battle to cancer. It brought great solace to our team to know that they made Alison's remaining time a little more manageable. Her husband, burdened with caring for his wife and their children, was under tremendous stress. Being able to support not only Alison but her entire family was an absolute privilege for us as a team. Subsequently, we reached out to another lady, Nicky, whose story was equally heart-wrenching, as she too had a very young family. We then collaborated with Arohanui Hospice to directly connect with those in need.
At Hire a Housewife, we take immense pride in offering families in these challenging situations the gift of a clean home. By relieving the cleaning responsibilities from families and cancer patients during their treatment, we help transform their homes into havens of comfort and relaxation. This allows them to devote their limited time and energy to healing from within and welcoming visitors without the added pressure of pre-cleaning.
This endeavor can be emotionally taxing for our Executive Housewives who also perform their regular cleaning duties. They often encounter not only devastated families but also cancer patients who may have only a short time left to live. Regrettably, many of our cancer patients do not recover.
We extend a unique offer of three months of cleaning services free of charge (subject to conditions) to our recipients. Additionally, some of our clients generously gift a cleaning package to one of our "Cleaning for a Cause" patients. If you're interested you can purchase a voucher from us as a gift for a terminally ill cancer patient. We will inform them that this gift is from you, providing some context about their situation and the type of cancer they are battling.
How would we utilise your voucher? We would either start their cleaning service with a thorough spring clean before commencing the three-month service, or if their home is well-maintained, we can add this on at the end for instance, if we provide three months of service and you contribute one month, we can extend the support accordingly.
