Bringing Comfort to Cancer Patients – One Clean Home at a Time
At Hire a Housewife, we understand that cancer doesn't just affect individuals it impacts entire families. After experiencing the profound toll cancer can take, Natasha and her husband Pete launched Cleaning for a Cause, a heartfelt initiative designed to support those in our community navigating terminal illness.
Recognising a gap in support services for cancer patients in the Manawatū region, this programme was created to offer a gift that truly matters during difficult times: the relief of a clean, calm, and cared-for home.
🌸 Why We Do It
Our mission is simple but deeply personal to bring comfort, ease, and dignity to people facing terminal illness. Working closely with Arohanui Hospice social workers, we identify cancer patients in need and offer up to three months of free cleaning support (conditions apply). It’s our way of giving families the space to focus on what matters most time together.
💬 Where It All Began
Our journey began with Alison, a brave local woman whose story touched our hearts. We learned of her battle through a newspaper article and reached out privately to offer support. Alison, who had a young family and a bright future, sadly passed away. Being able to ease her burden and support her husband and children was a profound honour for our team. Since then, we’ve helped others, like Nicky, and have worked alongside Arohanui Hospice to continue this meaningful work.

🌿 The Emotional Reality
This work is powerful and at times, heartbreaking. Our Executive Housewives often form bonds with the families they support. Sadly, many of the people we care for don’t recover. Yet through this service, we’re honoured to offer comfort and peace in their final months.
